Witch Hazel – Nature’s Shield For Your Skin
Witch Hazel (Hamamelis) are a genus of deciduous flowers with three species growing in North America, and an additional in China, and Japan respectively. Sometimes known as winterbloom in North America, these species are the Japanese Witch Hazel, Chinese Witch Hazel, Big-Leaf Witch Hazel, Ozark Witch Hazel, American or Common Witch Hazel. Contrary to what its name may indicate, the “witch” in Witch Hazel is derived from the Old English wice, which meant bendable, or pliable. The etymology and current spelling of the Hamamelis are unrelated to a “witch” as we know them today. Despite our proximity to three of the five recognized species of Witch Hazel, the most commonly seen species is the Chinese With Hazel (Hamamelis Mollis). The Chinese Witch Hazel features a yellow-red base and pale yellow ribbon-shaped petals, prized for their strong scent and potency in a number of topical applications.
Our Witch Hazel Hydrosol is the perfect holiday gift for young people, fighting against adverse hormonal reactions such as acne, and protecting the skin against damage. The tannins in Witch Hazel act as a barrier for the epidermis, neutralizing free radicals and preventing the spread of maladaptive cells.

Witch Hazel or Rose Water: How Do I Choose?
Both our Witch Hazel Skin Tonic and Rose Water Hydrosol provide natural protection for your skin, soothing inflammation and balancing complexion. The slight differences do not prevent them from being used interchangably, but are important enough to note. Witch Hazel is a stronger astringent, more useful for damaged, blemished, or oily skin – and thus is seen as a rescue agent and maintenance product, rather than for toning and beautifuying. Rose Water is gentler, more valued for cosmetic purposes and sensitive skin types. We recommend using both interchangably depending on the day, your needs, and how your skin is responding.
